About Dull Pencil
Dull Pencil Creative is a one-person brand design and marketing studio based in Houston, TX. It exists because small businesses deserve creative work that’s actually built for them — not templated, not AI-generated, not phoned in by someone who’s never set foot in their neighborhood.
The studio is built around one belief: good design and smart marketing shouldn’t require a big agency budget or a full-time hire. Most small businesses just need someone who knows what they’re doing, communicates like a human, and gets things done without a lot of hand-holding.
Who is behind the studio
Dull Pencil Creative is run by Zach Davis: designer, marketing director, and Houston native with over a decade of hands-on experience in branding, digital marketing, and creative direction.
Before going out on his own, Zach spent years embedded inside some of Houston’s most recognizable hospitality and beverage brands. He worked in marketing and branding at Karbach Brewing, served as the Marketing Director at Bad Astronaut Brewing, led brand and creative at Draft Horse, and spent years as Creative Director at Inkflo Print and Design Concepts — building brands, designing websites, and producing creative work for clients across retail, real estate, hospitality, and food and beverage.
Along the way he’s designed packaging for nationally distributed beer brands, organized and branded multi-brewery collaboration events, built websites for businesses across Houston, and created marketing programs that had to actually work.
He started Dull Pencil Creative because after a decade of doing this for other companies, he wanted to do it for the businesses he actually cares about: local spots, small teams, and people building something worth building.
